Lucia -Kannada movie review

Here are some of Facebook status updates about Lucia movie.   Just for our readers who repeatedly asked about Lucia review.
Last month, we were amongst the first few people who got to listen to songs, much before it’s official launch, of the much awaited Kannada movie of the year LUCIA. Today, we are amongst few people who have had the opportunity to be a part of the World Première of LUCIA, here in London!

Previously, I had written in my music review ( read here -https://www.facebook.com/nagashree.sheshadri/posts/632634180098497) that, LUCIA has stirred interest for many people in many aspects: from fund raising to marketing, talent hunt to distribution the list goes on and on. Those who have been following Pawan’s updates either on his Facebook Page or the blog will definitely understand what I am talking about here. Several things are being experimented in this movie & to support this initiative the least we could do was to pre-order the movie and become official distributors. Now, I am writing a few lines about the movie.

Story/Narration: What makes a movie interesting? Is it the story or the way its told? I believe every movie has a story which can be summarized in a line or two but the way you tell it to your audience is what matters the most & I think Pawan Kumar has been brilliant in this aspect in LUCIA. According to me narration is the ‘hero’ of this movie & the credit completely goes to the director. The way he brings in various dimensions to the story & binds them together is stupendous!!!

Music/Background Score: I think each and every song is justifiable to the situation. They gel very well with the storyline. Naveen Sajju’s voice suits perfectly to the character. It was awesome to listen to the most popular ‘tinbedakammi’ song when audience were humming along together! Poornachandra, you have done a wonderful job. And background score of the movie is superb, it provides a great boost to Pawan’s narration!

DOP: What do I say about this aspect of the movie! Siddharth Nuni has done a marvellous job, it’s a treat to watch this movie on big screen! I am not much aware of the technicalities behind it but as a common man I can see the effort put behind in bringing it to this level. According to me, DOP is the second hero of the movie, it gives a whole new dimension to the narration of the story. Kudos to Siddharth Nuni, Gomatesh Upadhye & whole DOP team!

Artists: Every artist in the movie has done justice to their roles. Hero is a perfect match for his character! He has done a wonderful job in portraying the innocence of the character. Heroine, Shruthi Hariharan has portrayed a sweet & simple girl.. She has done a good job in portraying various shades behind the character. And as always Achyuta Kumar is superb!

So all in all, LUCIA is a complete package and there isn’t a single dull moment in the entire movie. Pawan Kumar has been successful in gluing his audiences to their seats. I am so very happy about the aspect that he has been able to do this without any big guns!

LUCIA is for all those people who are looking for movie with a story, great narration & wholesome entertainment. Kudos to the whole team of LUCIA – a great creative team!! I wish every Kannadiga gets to watch this world class movie & of course would definitely recommend it to everyone.

And special thanks to Pawan Kumar who has been working really hard to make a difference in Kannada Film Industry. Thank you for providing us an opportunity to be a part of this wonderful world première!

My Rating - A Perfect 10!

For those who are wondering why I haven't written anything about the story, I don't want to take away the joy from you! Go find it out yourself, that's Lucia for you :) —

There are movies and then there are "Movies"!! Pawan Kumars latest directorial venture, Lucia, definitely falls in the latter category. Pawan has delivered a brilliant movie, a reward for all those who have followed him & Lucia continuously over the last 18 months and for the Kannada audience.

Last night, I got a chance to be part of history in the making. I witnessed the first ever World premier of a Kannada cinema in London. Lucia was screened, to a packed house, as part of the London Indian Film Festival. A big thanks and congratulations to team Lucia!

I will not reveal the story as the director has requested us not to but I will drop some hints here. If you have enjoyed the films and the narration style of movies of yesteryears such as Shawshank redemption, Inception, A beautiful mind, Shutter Island etc. style of movies, you are in for a treat!

The movie is centred around an Usher at a decrepit cinema who suffers from insomnia. The fun starts once the Usher starts getting weird dreams thanks to 'Lucia'. Well what is Lucia and where do the dreams take him? Watch it and find out yourself!!

Lucia delivers powerfully on all counts. A gripping story line, brilliant camerawork, effortless acting, apt background score and Lively Music. There is not a dull moment in the entire movie. The narration style and the thought of what next will keep you at the edge of your seats all through the movie.

All I can say is its a brilliant movie and just rush to your nearest theatres! The new man (& his team) from Kannada's tinsel town has delivered an absolute gem. It's a 5/5 from me!

Lucia, a new upcoming audience funded movie directed by Pawan Kumar , has stirred interest for many people in many aspects: from fund raising to marketing, talent hunt to distribution the list goes on and on. Those who have been following Pawan’s updates either on his Facebook Page or the blog will definitely understand what I am talking about here. Several things are being experimented in this movie & to support this initiative the least we could do was to pre-order the movie and become official distributors.

As we have pre-ordered the movie, yesterday, we got our official copy of Lucia Songs. I must admit that I was really pleased and happy to see an email from the Lucia team with the link to the music album. Not very often do we, people living overseas, get to listen to Kannada songs the day audio is released. Even if we are ready to buy, it is really hard to find them unless you are physically present in Karnataka. In that aspect, I am really very very happy! Thanks to Lucia team.
I spent few hours listening to these songs yesterday night so I thought I will share my personal views about the album. I am not an expert musician or a critic; these are my opinions as an ardent fan of Kannada songs.

1. ‘Hi Schoolu’ – This is the first song in album. Lyrics are narrative in style and do contain some cynical/mocking dialogues. Felt that there is some influence of Yograj Bhat & Harikrishna duo. Heard it couple of times but certainly not my favourite.

2. ‘Jamma Jamma’ – Ah! I had watched the making of this song number of times so was waiting to listen to the official & complete version. It just lived up to my expectations. Naveen’s voice is raw and just suits perfectly. A foot tapping number which, I feel, people will surely enjoy. Loved this song!

3. ‘Nee Thoreda’ – Ever since I had heard ‘Nee maayeyolago, maaye ninnolago’ line, I so wanted to listen to this. Very soothing music, awesome lyrics, Lovely rendition. Certainly one of the best in the album.

4. ‘Thinbeda’ – Needless to say, this is THE song which Lucia team has promoted the most I guess. It has lot of folk elements in it. Not everybody can pronounce those words with folk accent so clearly. I think Poorna Chandra has done a good job here! There is a duet version of this song, but I prefer the solo.

5. ‘Yako Baralilla’ –Even I think Naveen’s voice has a lot of innocence as Pawan Kumar has mentioned in Jamma Jamma making video. It is a slow number with meaningful lyrics. Beautiful composition. Enjoyed listening to Naveen.

These are my views based purely on listening to the songs and not having watched the movie or the videos. Sometimes you start liking some of them only after watching the movie. All in all, I can say it is not a typical Kannada movie album, with one song sung by Sonu, one by Shreya and one long macchu song. It is very different! Highlight of the album is Pawan Kumar’s new find singer, Naveen. His voice is not very polished unlike other play back singers which suits these songs perfectly. Music Director Poorna has done a good job in his debut album. I would definitely recommend this to all my friends who are always looking for variety & good Kannada songs produced, directed and sung by Kannadigas! All the best to the Lucia team!

Poornachandra Tejaswi, Music director of Lucia Kannada movie wrote his opinion about Lucia on facebook.com, here are the review of Lucia movie.

I heard about a recently released Kannada movie, director was not ready to do the premier show at all, he was not ready to build an opinion about his movie before the theatrical release.

It relay need guts to have 2 premier shows with house full audience for any director, that too much before theatrical release in India. What if they don't like, what if they don't understand, what if it creates negative publicity for the Indian release... so many questions blinks and i found an answer my self.

I felt like "WOW" when i was watching the movie at the time of Background scoring. i hope everyone in London will have the same opinion after this show. Pawan Kumar I don't wanted to miss an opportunity to be the FIRST to put Opinion online about LUCIA
